The School of Counseling and Psychology (SCP) offers online Christian counseling certification programs that integrate sound practice skills, disciplined competence, ethical integrity, and biblically-based values to promote human welfare. Our focus is on service provision and the restoration of relationships among individuals, families, and the broader Body of Christ. Our objective is to prepare graduates to provide healing and hope to members of the local and world community through the application of biblical counseling principles and professional excellence. The SCP endeavors to model leadership in the integration of sound Christian counseling in caregiving service and ministry. Students are trained from a Christian worldview and our programs are designed for individuals to take their knowledge into every corner of the world in order to assist people in the prevention and resolution of the problems of human living and to do so by reflecting the character of Christ within their personal, professional, and ministerial lives.
CORE PROGRAM PROGRESS
The Christian know that troubles are a part of the human experience (Jn 16:33), and that pain and crisis are universal human experiences due to the fall of mankind (Rom 8:20-22). As ambassadors and imitators of Christ, we should reflect Jesus’ compassion on those experiencing pain and crisis (Matt 9:36). This course helps to establish both practical and spiritual foundations for those serving Christ by ministering to humanity in times of crisis, whether that be across the globe or across the backyard.
The writer of Ecclesiastes recognized that no one lives a life free from sorrow. Jesus promised his disciples that in this world, they would experience trouble. Severe stress and trauma happen to both the Christian and non-Christian, to the strong and to the weak, to the rich and to the poor. How can the counselor offer help, support, and healing to those experiencing acute stress and trauma? This all important subject is discussed in this course. Students will gain an awareness of the different types of stress and trauma, and develop skills in helping to treat resultant conditions such as panic attacks, anxiety, and depression.
This course is designed to help caregivers working with others experiencing extreme stress, grief, and traumatic loss. Acute Stress, Grief, and Trauma Care provides in-depth training on how to work with trauma survivors, those experiencing complicated grief, and other forms of crisis counseling.
This course instructs caregivers in ways to identify and help those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. PTSD and Combat Stress is designed to help clinicians and caregivers who work with military populations better understand and be able to help those suffering from severe forms of stress and trauma resulting from their military experiences.
This course is designed to help caregivers gain Biblical wisdom and scriptural insight into how to help others working through traumatic grief and loss. This course addresses faith-based disaster relief techniques and provides learners with practical and relevant information for working in disaster relief.
