Course Lessons

SXAD 101: Wired for Intimacy: The Neuroscience of Sexual Addiction Part I
William Struthers, Ph.D.
Societal and cultural changes continue to keep sexuality at the forefront of the national dialogue, including the connection to the brain. Dr. Struthers discusses the Theory of Brain Organization, as well as nervous system and gender differences that impact autonomic responses, affect, cognition, behavior, and more. The nuances of infatuation, passion, and intimacy are also explored.
SXAD 102: Wired for Intimacy: The Neuroscience of Sexual Addiction Part II
William Struthers, Ph.D.
In Part II, Dr. Struthers examines diagnostic factors related to brain function and sexual addiction, such as excitement seeking, dysregulation, gender differences, emotional avoidance, and motivation. Screening and assessment tools are reviewed that help distinguish between use, misuse, abuse, full-blown addiction, and tolerance. Treatment recommendations are also offered.
SXAD 103: Lust and Fantasy: Taking Every Thought Captive
Mark Laaser, Ph.D.
The Apostle Paul’s teaching states that believers are able to take their thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ. Dr. Laaser addresses short-term behavioral strategies, as well as long-term spiritual and emotional growth that are necessary to achieve this goal. Understanding brain chemistry, the role of fantasy, and how they are messages from the soul are key components.
