Crisis and Faith 2.0 looks at the most human of all questions: “Why?” Why me? Why us? Why this? Why now? This course addresses ways to help clients work through these questions and equips counselors to understand how the prevalence of grief and loss issues associated with everyday life can lead to powerful ministry opportunities.

Course Lessons

CIF 101: A Theology of Suffering and the Crisis of Faith
Ron Hawkins, Ed.D., D.Min.
A balanced theology of suffering and the biblical principles involved are essential to effective and competent care of those in crisis. In this presentation, Dr. Hawkins discusses the biblical nature of suffering, why it often leads to a crisis of faith for individuals, and how to best integrate these theological principles with proven crisis intervention techniques when facing grief, loss, and trauma.

CIF 102: Collateral Damage: Firestorms of Faith
Ken Nichols, Psy.D.
A life crisis varies in intensity and character and can range from being disruptive to devastating. Family, friends, and the local church often saturate the suffering saint with practical help and spiritual encouragement, but may miss the internal firestorm of faith. Dr. Nichols offers practical strategies on how to care for those who are overwhelmed with a tragic life crisis and struggling with disillusionment and doubt about God.

CIF 103: Ambassadors of Faith and the Ministry of Presence
Charlie Davidson, D.Min.
A ministry of presence is something any Christian can provide to those suffering and in crisis. All a person must do is be present as a representative of God. Dr. Davidson discusses a deeper understanding of key terms used in crisis response work and how to best provide a ministry of presence when engaged in a disaster response, as well as the working definitions of a chaplain, counselor, and volunteer.
