Social Isolation and Loneliness 2.0

Summary

“We live in a disconnected, connected world,” but since the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become a major hurdle for people.  Recent studies and surveys have reported anywhere from 46-61% of the participants indicated they were moderate to significantly lonely. Many clients of mental health professionals may have hundreds, if not thousands, of online friends, without being genuinely seen by anyone. Social Isolation and Loneliness 2.0 will explore the complexities of loneliness and social isolation, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and therapeutic responses to help alleviate loneliness and social isolation in children, adolescents, and adults.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  1. Describe the effects of social isolation and loneliness on the physical, mental, and spiritual health of Christian clients
  2. Identify differences between loneliness and social isolation, and the potential impact on individuals and society
  3. Discuss evidence-based strategies and interventions for combating loneliness and social isolation in children, adolescent and adult populations
