Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this program for?

This program is ideal for individuals who feel called to help others grow spiritually and navigate life’s challenges through a biblical lens.

It is especially well suited for Christian coaches and counselors, pastors, ministry leaders, church volunteers, small group leaders, lay caregivers, and anyone in a people-helping role.

You do not need to be a licensed professional. What matters most is a willingness to learn and a heart to serve.

What does a Biblical Counselor do?

A Biblical Counselor provides guidance and support grounded in God’s Word, helping individuals address emotional, relational, and spiritual challenges.

Rather than focusing on diagnosis or clinical treatment, Biblical Counselors help people understand their struggles through Scripture, encourage spiritual growth and transformation, offer practical faith-based guidance for daily life, and support healing through truth, grace, and Christ-centered wisdom.

They often serve in churches, ministries, or other faith-based settings.

What is the role of a Biblical Counselor?

The role of a Biblical Counselor is to walk alongside individuals with compassion and truth, helping them align their thoughts, behaviors, and decisions with biblical principles.

Using practical counseling skills and spiritual disciplines such as prayer and Scripture, they support areas including emotional struggles, relationship challenges, habit change, personal growth, and spiritual development.

This role is non-clinical and is intended to complement, not replace, licensed mental health care.

What is the difference between Biblical Counseling and therapy?

Biblical Counseling and therapy both aim to help individuals experience healing and growth, but they differ in foundation and approach.

Biblical Counseling is rooted in Scripture and focuses on spiritual transformation, repentance, and alignment with God’s truth. Therapy is based on psychological frameworks and often includes diagnosis and clinical treatment.

This program does not qualify individuals to practice therapy. However, licensed professionals may find it valuable for integrating faith into their work.

How long does the program take?

The program includes 30 course modules across two courses and is designed to be completed at your own pace.

Some students complete the training in a matter of weeks, while others take several months depending on their schedule and availability.

How long do I have access to the courses?

When you enroll in the Caring for People God’s Way: Biblical Counseling Certificate Program, you receive full access to the course for one full year from your registration date. This gives you the flexibility to complete the training at your own pace, whether in a few weeks or over several months. All videos, materials, and resources remain available during that time.

If your access expires before you finish, you can extend it for an additional year by paying a $46 technology fee.

What is the total cost of the program?

Thanks to a special scholarship opportunity, the Caring for People God’s Way: Biblical Counseling Certificate Program is available for a reduced tuition rate, plus a technology fee.

Flexible payment options may be available through Affirm, allowing you to spread the cost over time. Payment plans may require a credit check and are subject to eligibility. You can review available options at checkout.

Will I receive a certificate when I finish?

Yes. Upon successful completion, you will receive both a digital Certificate of Completion and a digital Certificate in Biblical Counseling from Light University for each course through your Light University account.

This certificate may be used for résumés, professional development, ministry credentials, or sharing on professional platforms.

Will I earn continuing education credit?

Yes. This program provides 30 IBCC CE credits, which may be applied toward credentialing with the International Board of Christian Care.

This course is not approved for CE credits for licensed mental health professionals. Participants should confirm eligibility with their specific credentialing organization.

How do I become certified?

After completing the program, you will meet the educational requirements to pursue certification through the International Board of Christian Care (IBCC). www.ibccglobal.com/bcppc/requirements/

Certification is not required to begin serving others, but it is recommended for those seeking additional credibility and professional recognition.

Do I need prior experience or training before enrolling?

No prior experience or formal training is required.

Whether you are new to counseling or already serving in a ministry or helping role, this program will equip you with practical, biblically grounded tools you can begin using right away.
